Objectives
Objectives are qualitative, inspirational goals that define what you want to achieve. They answer the question: "Where do we want to go?"
What Makes a Good Objective?
- Qualitative — Describes an outcome, not a metric
- Inspirational — Motivates the team to work toward it
- Time-bound — Associated with a specific cycle
- Achievable — Ambitious but realistic
Examples
- Become the market leader in customer satisfaction
- Build a world-class engineering culture
- Establish a sustainable growth engine
Creating an Objective
- Navigate to the Objectives page
- Click the "New Objective" button
- Enter a title that describes your goal
- Optionally add a description for more context
- Select the cycle this objective belongs to
- Assign an owner (the person accountable)
- Optionally associate it with a team
Objective Statuses
Each objective has one of four statuses:
- Draft — Still being defined, not yet active
- Active — Currently being worked on
- Completed — Successfully achieved
- Abandoned — No longer being pursued
You can change the status at any time by editing the objective or dragging it between columns in the board view.
Objective Ownership
Every objective must have exactly one owner — the individual who is accountable for its success. While teams and multiple people may contribute, having a single owner ensures clear accountability.
Alignment
Objectives can be aligned to parent objectives to show how team goals connect to company-wide goals. When editing an objective, use the "Aligns to" field to link it to a higher-level objective.
View the Overview page to see how objectives align across your organization.
Progress Tracking
Objective progress is calculated automatically as the average completion of its Key Results. As you update key results through check-ins, the objective progress updates in real-time.
